Inspired by the movement of unveiling, the artist created the Pheromone Spray Series that presents a contemporary version of the myth of Aphrodite.
Indeed, even though juxtaposed with mercantile logotypes, they display no difference from the image of the amputated trunk of the so-called Venus of Milo, and lead to a "reinterpretation of Hellenistic beauty".
They imitate the “body pose” and mannerism symptomatic of ancient statuary, and introduce a polychromic element into the Greco-Roman monochrome iconography.
The drapes, the poses, as well as the veiling/unveiling movement of the goddesses’s bodies are rethought from a modern angle. The logos, chosen for their symbolic presence in the collective imaginary add a provocative element.
The series plays on the chromatic sobriety of ancient marble and the lurid world of modern advertising, as well as on the virginity of the young Aphrodites and the sometimes unchaste logotypes. Yet a certain grace and harmony stand out from this unexpected merging of two worlds that seem, at first sight, to oppose less than complement each other.
